The ongoing remake-athons continue with Southern star and Rakta Charitra lead, Suriya’s own Tamil film Singham being remade by Rohit Shetty with Ajay Devgn in the lead role. But news has hit the Bollywood circuit that the lead in the original, Anushka Shetty has rattled the boats of the producers and director Rohit Shetty and now has been replaced by another Southern actress Kajal Agarwal.
The southern siren is well known in the Tamil and Telugu industry for not only her glamorous roles like Singham but also for her power performances in critically acclaimed films like Arundhati and Vedam. But when Sweety Shetty as Anushka is also known as, was approached to reprise the female lead in the Singham remake, it has been reported by Times of India from insiders of the unit, Anushka had asked for renumerations close to 1.5 crore. Unimpressed, Rohit Shetty has decided to cast Kajal Agarwal, who was last seen in Bharathiraja’s Hindi comeback film Cinema which saw Arjun Sarja and Nana Patekar in lead roles. “She is very popular down south. She has done Magadheera, one of the biggest Telegu hits of all time. We are confident about her pulling off the role successfully,” Rohit says when speaking of his leading lady. He, however, remains tight lipped about Anushka and her departure from the film.
