The film “fulfilled two needs simultaneously”, according to Jai Arjun Singh, a New Delhi based culture blogger. The folk in the villages loved the story of a gleefully corrupt cop who nonetheless stands up for what is right; urban India fell for the nudge-nudge-wink-wink cheesiness of it all.

Rajeev Masand gave 2010’s highest grosser 2.5/5 saying Dabangg was ‘An ordinary, at best average film.’ And recommended Watching it strictly for Salman, who ‘delivers enough bang for your buck.’

However, Abhinav Kashyap’s debut was highly appreciated by Taran Adarsh ‘You walk in Dabangg with 100% expectations and you exit with 200% gratification. Entertainment guaranteed’ was his comment awarding the film 4.5/5, landing this directorial debut in at number 2 this decade.
