Akshay ‘Khiladi’ Kumar has been in the news all year round it seems. Currently busy with full-fledged promotions for his forthcoming release Tees Maar Khan, Kumar has had a somewhat jam-packed year. 2010 has already seen no less than three releases for the 43-year-old this year as well as the launch of Masterchef India, hosted by the actor himself.

During Tees Maar Khan promotions, Kumar revealed his thought about the audiences within the sub-continent, “I have always known that only commercial cinema works here”. Kumar carried on to say that he feels Oscar-winning movies do not work with Indian audiences and that this very fact somewhat limits the dreams of actors. The actor also revealed in a recent BBC interview that he prefers to make films that are
pure entertainment and make the audiences laugh. However, he has also disclosed that he is not afraid of breaking out of the normal roles and trying out varied characters in his films.

Kumar firmly believes that the Indian audiences do not take full appreciation of films which are truly epic, “Sometimes one wants to break boundaries and perform challenging roles…but India’s masses are not really interested in those kinds of films”. Kumar is most definitely only interested in pleasing the crowds rather than achieving critical acclaim. However, his movies during this year – Housefull, Khatta Meetha and Action Replayy – seemed to have gained very different reviews around the globe.

We are very much looking forward to the actor playing conman Tees Maar Khan in Farah Khan’s signature larger-than-life style. The film releases on 22 December in UK and USA and is on worldwide release from 24 December.
