Popular Tamil director Shankar (of Endhiran/Robot fame) is definitely not new to Bollywood. His earlier works Indian and Anniyan were dubbed in Hindi as Hindustani (Kamal Hasan in a double role) and Aparichit (Raavan’s Dev/Vikram with a multiple personality disorder). In fact he had even remade his Mudhalvan as the Anil Kapoor-Rani Mukherjee starrer Nayak. And after the super success of Rajnikanth’s Robot, Shankar has decided to quickly cash in on it by dubbing one of his earlier movies: Boys.

Boys is a 2003 Tamil movie starring the cute Siddharth and bubbly Genelia. For a director known for his message-injected movies, this one was a complete youth based masala movie – in fact both the actors had kick-started their filmi careers from this movie. Shankar, who wanted to release the dubbed version of this movie for quite some time has finally almost finished the dubbing. A.M.Rathnam of Sri Surya Movies has roped in Abbas Tyrewala to write the lyrics as well as the dialogues of this movie. A.R.Rahman who composed the music of the original – which was an extremely huge success – will be providing music for the Hindi version as well. As far as the voices are concerned, Genelia will be dubbing for herself (incidentally, someone else had dubbed for her in the Tamil version) but Sid, who is averse to releasing dubbed versions, will definitely not be lending his voice.

In case you are wondering about the risk of dubbing and releasing a non-Rajni Tamil film in North India, the producers seem to have given enough thought to it. Siddharth, who has already made a mark for himself in Bollywood through Rang De Basanti and Striker, and Genelia, whose Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na still continues to win the hearts of many people, have already become known faces in Filmistan. ‘The film has good quality in terms of technical and narrative aspects. So there’s no need of remaking it as well A.R. Rahman’s musical score is mind-boggling’, said Rathnam.

The movie will hit the theatres next year.
