A few days ago, Sanjay Dutt and his wife Maanayata finally could take their twins home. The babies had been born prematurely on October 21 and had to stay in Breach Candy Hospital for nearly a month. But now all is well, and the proud parents have named their kids Iqra and Shahraan.

Allegedly Sanju and Maana picked the names during their holiday in Egypt which was in January and thus even before Maana got pregnant. It’s said that for a boy they wanted a name beginning with an S to continue the lineage of Sanjay and his father Sunil Dutt. Having a Muslim mother (Nargis) and a Muslim wife, Sanjay had no qualms giving his son a name of Persian origin; Shahraan means “Royal Knight”. Even his daughter’s name Iqra (“to educate”) has a join to the Islam as in the Quran the sura 96 begins with the word Iqra.

Apart from that, Iqra sounds in rhythm with the name of Sanju’s elder daughter Trishala (from his first wife Richa). With these two girls and his “Junior SD”, Sanju surely is a very happy family man now.
