Ranbir Kapoor is taking some hints from the great silent comedy star Charlie Chaplin, who also influenced Ranbir’s grandfather Raj Kapoor.

Ranbir plays a deaf-mute in Anurag Basu’s ‘Silence‘. He has apparently vowed to go silent from January 2011 to prepare for the challenging role. According to some reports, Ranbir is taking some hints from Charlie Chaplin, who could convey any emotion with his iconic body language and facial expressions.

Last year, Ranbir imitated Chaplin in a dead-on impression in his crazy comedy ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani‘. In this film as well, Kapoor studied his grandfather’s film ‘Mera Naam Joker‘ to get into the skin of the entertainer Prem.

Anurag Basu commented, “‘Silence’ will be the funniest film I’ve made. Although Ranbir plays a physically challenged character, he is never depressed. This is a film about high spirits. I love the mix of pathos and parody in Chaplin’s performances. His silent films are a reference point for Ranbir. Chaplin could be hilarious even when he was placed in tragic situations.”
