When it comes to intense roles, you could say Ajay Devgan re-wrote the book. But he’s no stranger to comedies either, as he often switches gears between the varying genres, as can be seen in his releases this year. After a dismal finish to 2009, the actor started the year with the comedy caper Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, followed by two intense films, Rajneeti and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. His next release Aakrosh, due this Friday, is also an issue based film about the controversial topic of honour killings. He then shifts gears, joining the gang from Golmaal Returns for a third instalment with Golmaal 3.

“I like balancing it out because, even the audience will not like it if I keep doing the same thing” says the versatile actor in an interview with Hindustan Times. He also says there’s no room for favouritism either, “I don’t have a favourite genre. If I do just one genre again and again, I’ll get bored. It’s good to keep doing different kinds of roles.”

So what’s with the comment about Priyadarshan, you may ask. No animosity here folks. Ajay is all praise of the National Award winning director and feels he is one of few that can handle both the funny and serious side of cinema. Yet Ajay doesn’t hold back, saying that Priyadarshan’s hard-hitting cinema appeals to him more. “I think Priyadarshan is better with these kinds of films. He had earlier made films like Virasat, Kala Pani and also some southern films.” The actor, who is rumoured to be in Priyadarshan’s next project Bullet Train, was comfortable enough with the director to even voice this, “.. I have even told Priyadarshan that he should stop making comedy films and concentrate on such films, because I think he has a very good hold on action and drama. Even he feels that Aakrosh is one of the best films of his career.”
