When you see him in interviews many times Abhishek Bachchan will be cracking a joke or two and of course, he has also had some really funny moments on the big screen. However, lately the actor has been in serious avatar with his roles in films like Game and Dum Maaro Dum. Now he is looking forward to going funny again with Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ladies and Gentlemen.
Besides getting the chance to stretch his comic timing, the film also has another bonus in that it stars wife Aishwarya Rai. This is the first time the real life jodi will be paired opposite each other in a comedy flick. Abhishek told IANS, “I was very keen to do a comedy after a spate of more serious films and also Aishwarya and I haven’t done a comedy together, so I’m excited about this film.”
Produced and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Ladies and Gentlemen is reportedly about a man, his wife and his eye for the ladies. Yes, Abhishek is playing a married Casanova! Santoshi says it is a romantic breezy comedy along the lines of his Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, but with not so much of the slapstick. Set to start the first week of July, it will have schedules in Mumbai, Malaysia, Rome and New York.
Talking about the script Bachchan said, “It’s a great script, very funny and Raj-ji is directing it. We’ve been very keen to work together for a long time. I’m very happy that we will be finally working together.”
Apparently the film was narrated to Aishwarya a few years ago, Santoshi told Subhash K Jha, “I had actually offered this film to Aishwarya five years ago. And look at destiny. It’s come back to her. Every role is earmarked for a particular actor. I feel Aishwarya is perfect for this film.”
About the film, Aishwarya said in an earlier interview, “As far as this script is concerned, it was always a yes. The movie got delayed and with Abhishek and Raj-ji on board, I’m happy to be back.”
So is the Mrs. looking forward to working with the Mr. again? “It’s wonderful to be doing another movie with Abhishek. Abhishek and I are his dream pair, he’s always wanted us for this film.”
What about the Mr., is he looking forward to working on the romantic comedy with the Mrs.? “I have done quite a few films with Aishwarya and I have always enjoyed working with her, even before we were together and married. I am really looking forward to working with her again as she is a great co-star. Very supportive and a hard working professional.” Adding, “It will be interesting to see if we have that comic timing.”
