For many, the performances at IIFA are often just as exciting as the presentation of the awards themselves. Therefore, Shah Rukh Khan fans across the globe were aflutter with the recent news that he would be performing at the 12th annual IIFA Awards this Saturday in Toronto. However, with a previous knee injury acting up and plans for surgery, his plans to rock the IIFA stage may be dampened.

The action scenes for his upcoming superhero flick Ra.One have proved strenuous for King Khan’s knee, which he injured last year. “He has been going through a lot of discomfort for sometime. He has a tear in the meniscus of his left knee,” a source told the media. Dr. Ali Irani of Mumbai confirmed that Shah Rukh, who has previously also suffered from back and shoulder problems, will need to undergo knee surgery in July.

While the current buzz is that Shahrukh has been advised complete rest for his knee, IIFA director Sabbas Joseph assures those concerned that Shah Rukh will indeed be performing at the ceremony. “So far there is no change in the plan. Shah Rukh will be performing at IIFA this year,” Joseph stated.

If all goes as planned, fans will be seeing Shah Rukh at IIFA after 7 long years. A three-time IIFA Best Actor Award winner, Shah Rukh is nominated once again this year for his performance in My Name is Khan. The ceremony makes its North American premiere in Toronto, Canada on June 25, 2011.
