Bollywood is not new to remaking movies but the good thing is that instead of getting ‘inspired’, it is now following the legitimate route of remaking after acquiring the rights from the original makers. Quite a few such projects are in the pipeline, but here we give you the top 5 eagerly awaited remakes.

Ready

After starring in successful remakes like Tere Naam and Wanted, Salman Khan will be seen in yet another remake – the Hindi version of 2008 superhit Telugu movie Ready which starred Ram and Genelia. To be produced by Bhushan Kumar and directed by Aneez Bazmee, this movie will see the pairing of Salman-Asin once again after London Dreams. Pritam will be composing the music.

Ready is the story of Chandu, a final year engineering student who mistakenly kidnaps the wrong bride and falls in love with her while trying to help his friend. His task now is to make her family members ‘ready’ to accept their relation. Salman loved the script but refused to play a college student stating that it wouldn’t suit him. Last heard, some drastic changes had been made to the script to keep him happy.

Kaakha Kaakha

Gautham Menon’s 2003 Suriya-Joytika Tamil blockbuster Kaakha Kaakha is being remade by Vipul Shah with John Abraham playing the lead. To be directed by Nishikant Kamat (of Mumbai Meri Jaan fame), the story is about a brave and honest cop who is determined to wipe out a gang of hardcore criminals.

It was announced that Asin would be the female lead opposite John but was dropped after it was observed that her character would be similar to the one she played in Ghajini. News has it that Deepika Padukone has now been approached to play the lead.

It’s My Life

It’s My Life is a remake of 2006 superhit romantic movie Bommarillu starring Siddharth and Genelia. Directed by Aneez Bazmee, It’s My Life is the story of Shashank (Harman Baweja) whose life is controlled by his extra-loving father (Nana Patekar). That is, until he meets Natalie (Genelia D’souza), a bubbly, carefree girl who likes living life on her terms.

The film is set to release on 26th November, 2010.

Bodyguard (Yet Untitled)

Salman Khan’s brother-in-law, Atul Kulkarni, recently announced the remake of 2010 Malayalam movie Bodyguard with of course Salman in the lead. Siddique, who directed the original, will be directing the Hindi version as well. The title of the movie as well as the female lead is yet to be decided. Bodyguard is the story of a ‘heroism-loving’ man who attempts to move in with any person whom he admires, as his bodyguard.

The original starred Dileep and Nayantara.

Vinnai Thandi Varuvaaya (Yet Untitled)

The recently announced Vinnai Thandi Varuvaayu (VTV) remake has very few confirmed details, but it makes the list because of the immense interest it has already generated. Gautham Menon who directed the original will be directing the Hindi version as well. The tunes composed for the Tamil version by A.R Rahman will be used with probably an addition of a song.

VTV is the story of an aspiring director who falls in love with a Malayalee Christian girl Jesse. Trisha has confirmed that she will be starring in the Hindi version. As for the male lead, the director’s yet to finalize a name though the names doing the rounds are Siddharth (who has confirmed he is not doing it), Prateik Babbar and Ranbir Kapoor.
