10feb raj pablo week3 01 February Philmi FundaasIt seems to feel like a quiet week after the hurly burly of MNIK with no releases in London – we hate when this happens. We were are still waiting for the DVD release of Ishqiya – everyone who has seen this movie in India is pleased at the success and the fantastic performances – especially by Vidya Balan. Director Abhishek Chaubey promised us that the DVD should be out this month but we are still waiting!

Two releases in Bolly La La Land – in India, Tabu’s old fashioned family values – Toh Baat Paki and Shreyas Talpade’s horror flick Click. Word hasn’t been too positive but let’s see – both Tabu and Shreyas are actors of stature.

Anyway, the juggernaut My Name Is Khan is still keeping the cash registers busy at the box office; it’s broken records here in the UK including beating Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan’s previous movie – Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, even NDTV interviewed us in Marble Arch outside the Odeon, a hop, skip and jump away for Chez SRK to ask about why MNIK has been such an outstanding success. We, of course, were politically correct and said it was all because of Barkha Dutt’s “blink and you miss her” award winning performance. On a serious note, the movie has firmly established SRK as a global superstar within the public consciousness.

London was awash with BAFTA fever this weekend- with all the understated British glam, glitz and worthiness. Avatar was pipped at the post by the thought provoking The Hurt Locker; Vanessa Redgrave was awarded the BAFTA fellowship and we were over the moon when Anil Kapoor co-presented an award. We swear this man is looking younger and younger – we want to know his fitness regime!

Talking about awards ceremonies it’s that time of the year again for the worlds largest film industry. -All the stars are dusting off their make up, chasing the jewellers and fashion designers as well as practising their acceptance speeches! Oh yes, we’re all gearing up to the Filmare Awards and its going to be a big one. Last year we were in the midst of Mumbai Movie Magical Madness and have to say it was exhilarating. The craziness, excitement, gossip, glamour is infectious. This year we will be getting a run down of all the winners, losers; fashion successes; disasters on our Sunday show. Question on everyone’s lips is who will present – Imran Khan and Ranbir Kapoor were in youthful exuberance so who could it be? Any thoughts?

It’s been a fantastic year of movies and the range and choice of subject matters; themes; stars is so varied – it’s going to be a tough choice. Till then here’s a list of some of the nominations, let us know your thoughts!
