Onir and Nandita Das Honored in the UK

The Triangle Media Group (www.trianglemediagroup.org) will host its 2008/2009 Biennial Global Awards evening in an exclusive, by invitation only Academic Lecture & Awards Presentation Ceremony on Sunday 7 February 2010 at the Cineworld Cinema Nottingham at 5pm.

The David Flint Honorary Award winners; Indian Film Actress Nandita Das will be awarded for her film Firaaq, who will deliver a video link directly from Mumbai. Furthermore, Indian film Director Onir will be present to receive an award for his forthcoming film I am based on the violations of human rights which will also be previewed starring Bollywood stars Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala & many others. In addition, there will also be a special screening of his critically acclaimed film based on HIV & Aids; My Brother Nikhil starring Juhi Chawla and Sanjay Suri who will also be awarded later this year for producing I am.

In addition to the four main honours, the top 50 South Asian Global achievers in mainstream media will also be recognised. In the special mention category, nuclear physicist Dr. Shan Nair will receive an award as will singer Bishi who will be announced in the category music. Other winners include Playwright Emteaz Hussain, Roma Patel and Dr. Rainder Dhudra in the category of Drama, Arts and Education respectively.

In the Global Ambassadors category, Musician AR Rahman has been recognised for bringing Indian music to the mainstream in Couples Retreat and Slumdog Millionaire whilst Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker has been recognised for religious peacemaking in his film Jodha Akhbar. They will be awarded later this year in India.

Guest speakers will include leading Human Rights Barrister & Head of Trent Chambers Mrs. Usha Sood, Media Guru Hardish Virk and dignitaries; the Lord Mayor of Nottingham Jeannie Packer and the Rt Hon. Vernon Coaker MP Minister for Schools and Learners who will welcome the winners at the Jurys Inns Hotel in tea reception at 3.00pm where the press are also invited.

TMG which predominantly consists of Law, Media & Politics Graduates, biennially celebrates honours and recognises South Asian achievement in the global media. Work of those with a legal, academic or political aim is the main criteria for selection. The awards are announced by Professor & Media Lawyer David Flint from Sydney and presented by Haresh Sood, a local Actor, Teacher and Lawyer who is the Global Ambassador of TMG who also heads the entire awards.
