For the dilettante lot, he was a descendant of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, rooted to the ethnic Pashtuns of Afghanistan, but an Indian. Late Tahir Hussain started his film career in 1957 as an assistant director to his brother Nasir in films like Tumsa Nahin Dekha and Dil Deke Dekho He produced films like Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Anamika (1973), Caravan (1973) and had directed the Aamir-Juhi starrer Tum Mere Ho in the year 1990. Aamir’s brother Faisal’s unsteady psychological condition brought differences between Tahir Hussain and Aamir Khan. In spite of the differences, Tahir Hussain’s whole clan with Faisal, Aamir, daughters Nikhat and Farhat, and wife Zeenat Khan were present at the funeral.

Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao, who were in the US attending the Sundance Film Festival where his movie Peepli Live was premiered, arrived on Wednesday afternoon. Tahir Hussain’s grandson Imran Khan, who was away in New Zealand for a film shoot, also attended the funeral. Tahir Hussain was last spotted at Imran Khan and Avantika Malik’s engagement ceremony.
