Bollywood’s New Year’s Resolutions for 2010

We all make them, we all mean to keep them but do we ever? In case you haven’t guessed, we are talking about New Year’s resolutions and since the world is turning to another year it is time to make those promises once again. We thought we would give some advice to those we feel need some help in the Hindi Film Industry on what they might resolve to do in 2010! Check it out!

Yet again, Rani needs to ditch YRF and move on to bigger and better things.

We love her, she is fabulous but really where is the Rani of Black? Some of our staff loved Dil Bole Hadippa, some of our staff hated it and we all agree she looked amazing, but it did not make us go wow there is that brilliant actress we know and love! Time to spread your wings and go with another banner and get those roles that show why you are called the Queen of Bollywood!

Imran Khan needs to be more careful when choosing roles.

He made a splash in his first film but his second and third were not received that well except by his loyal fans. He was praised for his performances but the films not so much. We think he needs to channel some Mamaji and be a bit more picky! Here’s hoping that he took our advice early and I hate luv storys with Sonam Kapoor will show his acting talent and be his next big hit!

Big B needs to find yet another way to re-invent himself…it keeps us on our toes!

We did not think it was possible that the living legend could once again completely surprise us but he did that in Paa and we loved it! So what do we hope he will do in 2010? Do that again and more! We can’t imagine what he could do to top Auro and Debraj Sahai, but if it is out there we are sure he will try it! For now all we can say is WAH!

Deepika needs to take voice modulation lessons—her dialogue delivery is still terrible!

She is gorgeous yes, but as an actress we really feel she needs to enroll in Anupam Kher’s acting school. Not only to work on how she says her lines and make them believable, but also to get some emotion in those gorgeous eyes of hers. She has had some sparkles here and there, now she needs to find out how to hone her craft and instead of seeing Deepika we will know she is Shanti Priya, Gayatri and Meera.

Genelia needs to stop playing variations of the same role.

From what we hear Genelia in real life is a bubbly happy girl who is very positive about everything and her portrayal of that type of girl in reel life cannot be beat. However, that is all we have seen so far in her foray into Hindi films and we want to see her dig deeper and go for something totally different. She has the talent that is for sure and so we hope producers and directors take advantage of that, so we can stop thinking, oh Genelia is starring in it – must be a bubbly girl role!

Hrithik Roshan needs to get rid of the beard…what ever happened to the D2 look?

We know it is for a role but the beard is just not a good look for him and has to go! Please, please Hrithik go back to the off the scale hotness of D2! We love that look! We are looking forward to your performances, so we will wait impatiently until we get our hunk back! But for your next role can you please be clean shaven and well, all the girls on the staff request shirtless too!

Films about terrorism need to stop — they are way overdone.

Come on Bollywood, it’s getting old now. I understand that the current political climate calls for a few reflections on terrorism, but the theme is being beaten to death by filmmakers. It was unique when Kabul Express and Fanaa tried it out, but how many times are we going to see people with brown skin targeted by Americans because of their skin colour? How many seemingly innocent characters are going to turn into terrorists (i.e. Saif and John in Kurbaan and New York)? Don’t look forward to this resolution taking place any time soon – get ready for My Name is Khan.

Aishwarya needs to work on her appearance big time — marriage does not mean that she can’t look hot!

Who said that marriage means you can’t look hot anymore? Apparently Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Post-marriage to Abhishek Bachchan, we have consistently seen her take her appearance downhill. Of course she’s still beautiful, but she looks like she’s given up on taking care of her body. After all, it was only three years ago that she stunned us with her figure in Dhoom 2. We’re not asking for a size zero or anything, but we’d like to see Ash looking as sexy as she used to look, not covered up by oversized salwar’s and old lady-style sarees.

Bebo and Saif need to stop professing their love for each other in every single interview.

Okay, we know you guys are in love and that you spend all your spare time dancing around trees with each other – no need to let us know in every interview that you two do! Lovebirds Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, whose steady relationship has been the source of many headlines this past year, talk more about each other than their films. Naturally, we don’t mind once in a while (after all, this is Bollywood… we like some gossip!), but eventually it stops being cute and gets annoying. So hopefully in the New Year Bebo and Saif can tone it down just a little.

Akshay Kumar needs to stop playing it safe.

Just because 8 x 10 Tasveer failed doesn’t mean that Akshay Kumar should stop taking risks. In a recent interview, Kumar stated that in 2010 he hopes to focus solely on audiences and to entertain them. I hope that doesn’t mean yet another string of silly comedies. He’s already signed Priyadarshan’s Khatta Meetha in which you can likely expect a re-hash of all Priyadarshan’s earlier films. Let’s hope that Action Replay is a little bit more than a meaningless comedy. Doesn’t Akshay get bored?

Katrina needs to continue acting with people her age — she seems to do much better work.

I think Katrina’s finally found the secret to real success in the acting department. And it’s not Akshay Kumar. In 2009, most of Katrina’s acclaimed performances were opposite co-stars who are closer to her age than any father-like Khan’s or Kumar’s that she is used to working with. She fit in perfectly with Neil Nitin Mukesh and John Abraham in New York and her chemistry with Ranbir Kapoor in Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani was a complete rage. Personally, I think she should replace her affinity for Akshay with Ranbir! The best part is that when she acts with people her age, her acting seems to get ten times better. Let’s keep it up, Katrina!

Kangana Ranaut needs to stop playing roles where she is a drug addict, an alcoholic or crazy in any way, shape or form.

Seeing Kangana possessed, high or crazy is getting tiresome. In almost all of her films, Kangana plays variations of the same role. Don’t get me wrong, she’s absolutely brilliant in all of them, but we think it’s time for her to try something different before she gets typecast… or is it too late? Out of the eight releases in her career, she has played the depressed woman afflicted by alcohol, drugs or mental disorders in five of them. Let’s hope Raaz – The Mystery Continues was the last time we see Kangana possessed! It’s kind of losing its charm.

The good news is that several of the stars on this list have already acted upon their faults in 2009 and we can hope that none of them re-appear on our list next year. But New Years’ resolutions are hard to keep, so here’s to wishing all the stars on this list the determination to make 2010 a better year!

We, here at BollySpice of course resolve to continue to bring you the best Bollywood news, features, interviews and reviews out there so stay with us in 2010!

Happy New Year from all of us at Bollywood Spice Magazine!
