Konkona Sen Sharma, who enjoys her 30th birthday today, says she would like to go back 30 years and more to the seventies. “I have actually fantasised about myself working in that era which made movies that saw heroines wear chiffons and look gorgeous like in Silsila and even made films which were serious giving women the scope to show off their acting talents,” she says.

Konkona also adds that she is looking forward to seeing her career develop behind the camera. “I would love to direct my own movie but I don’t know when that would happen,” she confesses, “I will write a script for sure but I’m a little lazy too. However, if I make a movie or write something, I will try to make it the best as you do know I like to keep high standards.”

Konkona treads the line between commercial and independent cinema very well – one of her more interesting upcoming movies is Mirch, a collection of four short stories about women’s emancipation in which she plays a double role. The film also stars Raima Sen, Shahana Goswami and Shreyas Talpade. There’s also the interesting Mrinalini, a mother-and-daughter project, directed by and starring Konkona’s mother Aparna Sen, which also stars Konkona and Rajat Kapoor.
