The cast for the remake of Zanjeer, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, is complete. The iconic role of Vijay, which was played by Amitabh Bachchan will be played by Ram Charan Teja, son of Megastar Chiranjeevi, who is making his Bollywood debut with the remake of the cult classic. This Vijay gave Bachchan the title of ‘Angry Young Man’. Will Ram Charan be able to step into Big B’s shoes?
Co-producer Amit Mehra confirmed that none other than Priyanka Chopra will play the female lead in the remake of Zanjeer. This is the third time the 29-year-old actress will be seen in a Amitabh Bachchan remake. She was earlier seen in remakes of Don and Agneepath.
According to the latest rumours her role will be far cry from Jaya Bhaduri in the original Zanjeer. “Priyanka will play a woman of today. She will be cast as a US-returned owner of a café. Though she will be dressed most glamorously she won’t be doing any songs or item numbers,” says a source.
According to the director, Ram Charan Teja is leaving no stone unturned to make his Bollywood debut a superhit. The actor is working hard on Hindi and his body for the prestigious project, which will be made in Telugu as well. Teja has promised to help Priyanka with her Telugu if she promises to help him with his Hindi.
Another interesting fact is that Priyanka has been signed for both the Hindi and the Telugu versions of Zanjeer and will be paid on par with Ram Charan.
Will this remake be another hit?
