Looking lovelier by the day, Genelia D’Souza hopes to reach out to an even bigger audience through the power of television by hosting UTV Bindaas’ The Big Switch. “I don’t think it’s a back-door entry to the limelight,” she says, “Television is the best way to reach out to a lot of people. I’ve always lived by my own fundas. When I started my film career down south, people told me it was a place for Bollywood drop-outs. But I’ve proved them wrong and made a place for myself there.”

In what appears to be a reality show with a difference, The Big Switch will take ten super-rich young people from Mumbai’s money zone and pair them up with ten slum-dwellers in the shanty towns of the city. There, they will have to survive and complete a number of tasks in order to fulfil the one special wish of their buddy in the contest. ”What really attracted me to the show was that Big Switch is a show with a heart,” Genelia adds, “It’s a very cool, very original ground breaking format, and it’s also going to be a lot of fun, both for viewers and contestants. I know that the Bindass team has some really crazy things planned for the show.”

Genelia is also looking forward to the release of her next two films, It’s My Life, a remake of the south hit Bommarillu and Chance Pe Dance with Shahid Kapoor, in which she appears in her usual bubbly and frothy avatar. “Though they are both bubbly characters, they are different from each other,” she says, “They are all believable and people will relate to them easily.” She’s also due to start work next month on the south film Orange for Bommarillu Bhaskar.
