Yash Chopra to be honored at Pusan International Film Festival

Yash Chopra is being honored at this year’s Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF). The Korean film festival is in its 14th year and it highlights Asian films and filmmakers. At this year’s 2009 Asian Cinema Night, Yash Chopra will be presented with the “Asian Filmmaker of the Year” award. According to a press release, “Since the 8th PIFF in 2003, this award has been presented to Asian filmmakers with outstanding activities in improving and developing the Asian film industry and culture.”

The press release goes on to say, “The 14th PIFF pays its respects to Chopra’s brilliant achievements and challenging spirit by presenting him the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award. As the most influential producer and director in India over decades, Chopra has made remarkable contributions to establish Bollywood cinema on the global stage. He is also a founder of Yash Raj Films, India’s largest and leading film production company (established in 1970) that has been a hotbed of developing new talent.”

Adding,”His tireless five-decade long devotion has made considerable contributions to enhance the global status of Indian films as well as Asian cinema.”

In honor of his receiving the award and his work in Asian cinema the festival will have showings of four of his films including: Lamhe, Dhoom 2, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and the newest Yash Raj release New York.
