Actor Shiney Ahuja had his bid for bail rejected and must continue to reside in Arthur Road jail. His lawyer had claimed that Shiney comes from a respectable family and had been wrongly implicated in the rape allegation against a domestic servant as it had been a case of consensual sex. “The alleged offence is serious and it appears that a prima facie case has been made out against the accused,” said sessions judge DR Shirsao.

“The victim’s story of the alleged rape seems highly doubtful and concocted,” argued Shiney’s lawyer Srikant Shivade, “If she had resisted, then the actor would have had more injuries on his body. But Ahuja has only two scratches on his hand.” The prosecution argued, however, that as the investigation was ongoing there was a risk that Shiney might tamper with the evidence. Also, as the girl comes from a lower class family, there was a risk that Shiney could intimidate her or her family.

Shiney is apparently sharing a cell with gangster Abu Salem. Ironically, Shiney’s role in the film Gangster was based largely on Salem. After feeling unwell last week, Shiney is now said to be feeling better and to be exercising. He must remain in jail now until at least July 16th.
