What began as just a hope and idea went on to fund and make one of the best films of 2011. We are talking about the incredible I Am. Director Onir and Sanjay Suri came up with the novel idea of taking the making of a film to the people. They invited fans to become part and producers of the four short films in one. This crowd sourcing model was a tremendous success with over 400 donors from the world over contributing to the making of I Am. I Am, was a critical success and went on to win the National Award for Best Hindi Film.
Once again Anticlock Films offers you the possibility to be a part of the making of a film. Calling this new way to make new wave Indian cinema Citzen Cinema, their next project is Chauranga, directed by debutant Bikas Mishra. However, instead of collecting the money themselves through a blog and Facebook, this time they have formalized the process of crowd-funding and are working with fund-raising platform Wishberry.in. Inspired by a true event, Chauranga, directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra and produced by Sanjay Suri and Onir, is a fictional account of six days in a dark corner of India. A story of the violence of class oppression that still exists in Rural India.
A fourteen year old dalit boy is growing up in an unnamed corner of India. His dream is to go to a town school like his elder brother and his reality is to look after the pig that his family owns.
His only escape is to sit atop a Jamun tree and adore his beloved passing by on her scooter. His unspoken love is as true as his mother’s helplessness who cleans the cowsheds of the local strongman’s mansion, with whom she also has a secret liaison.
When the boy’s elder brother comes on a vacation to the village, he soon finds out about his younger brother’s infatuation. The learned elder brother makes him realize the need to express his love and helps him write a love letter.
Will things remain the same in the village after this love letter is delivered?
Will love prevail in a system ridden with caste based obstacles?
