Very much the centre of attraction in Let’s Dance, Gayatri Patel already looks like a big star in the making. Well-known as a dancer, it seems she can’t help herself slipping into sequences even when she is off-screen. “As a child, I used to teach dance to my sister and recently at a friend’s sangeet I ended up teaching dance sequences to a lot of our friends even though there was a choreographer,” she says.

American-born Gayatri now lives in India and plans on building a career in Mumbai. “I was born in the US, so it’s got a special place in my heart,” she explains, “But India is now my home and I love every nook and cranny of my home here. I love the people, the streets, the panipuri stalls, and the chaotic brilliance of this thriving nation.”

Recently interviewed by top BollySpice journalist Prathna Tiwari, Gayatri was asked which dancers she most admired in Bollywood. “Vyjayanthimala is my all time favourite and I can see her dance on the song ‘Hotho Pe Aisi Baat’ in Jewel Thief any number of times,” she says, “I also like Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi.”

The Dancing Tornado was born in Nashville, educated at the prestigious Emory University in Atlanta and was even runner-up in the Miss USA contest. She has signed up to make a guest appearance in the John Abraham’s movie 1-800-LOVE.
