Jackky Bagnani’s Kal Kissne Dekha may not have made much impact as the first major release since the end of the multiplex strike – amidst howls of disbelief that the top Bollywood producers didn’t have at least one major star release lined up, printed and ready to take advantage of a Bollywood crowd desperate for fresh entertainment – but at least co-star Vaishali Desai, recently interviewed by top BollySpice journalist Roshni Mulchandani, had the opportunity to make some impact in the movie.

The former Miss India International and psychology graduate is the grand-niece of late director Manmohan Desai. What memories does she have of him? “We used to go to Mumbai on our annual vacations and of course spent a lot of time with granddad,” she says, “I was very young. I never used to look up to him as a filmmaker. We used to call him Big Dad but none of my cousins or even me had this aura of being his grandchildren. He was a great cricket fan and we all used to love watching cricket with him.”

How does she feel about making her debut in KKD? “I am thrilled and it’s a great moment for me. But at the same time I know I have a big responsibility on my shoulders. My family has a lot of expectations from me, I need to prove myself.”

With her commitment and talent, it’s likely we’ll be seeing a lot more of Vaishali in the future.
