Seems as if the Bollywood Monster Mashup was again the place to be in Toronto. Preliminary estimates are that 15,000 people danced into a frenzy at the 2nd annual Bollywood Monster Mashup evening concert on Saturday, July 28th at Mississauga Celebration Square.

“I can’t believe the number of messages we’re getting over email, Twitter and Facebook from people telling us how much fun they had. The best part is that we’re getting thanked for throwing a huge party that ended with a Bollywood mosh-pit!” says music composer and show producer Vikas Kohli of FatLabs; adding, “We got away with creating some crazy and indulgent interpretations of Bollywood and we’re stoked that the audience loved dancing and singing along to every minute of it. I owe a lot of thanks to the unbelievably talented performers, the doggedly hard working team, our sponsors and community partners.”

Over 80 singers, musicians and dancers performed for a non-stop 4 hour stretch which included original Canadian arrangements, compositions, and choreography. The show reinterpreted music and dance from traditional Indian folk, classics of Indian cinema and modern Bollywood pop. The audience witnessed hit Bollywood songs performed by a funk/jazz band, dancers, the 60-member Bollywood Monster Choir, and an exclusive performance from Indian Idol Rajdeep Chatterjee for his first show ever in Canada. The night ended with the crowd dancing and screaming for an encore. For the encore, Indian Idol Rajdeep Chatterjee led the entire crowd on a sing along tribute to iconic Indian actor Rajesh Khanna while Vikas Kohli accompanied him on the acoustic guitar. Rajesh Khanna passed away 10 days before the show and was known as the original superstar of Indian Cinema.
