Bipasha Basu, who often complains that producers cannot see beyond her sexy image to the actress underneath, notches up the image a further few strokes with her cover for the latest edition of Filmfare magazine. Carrying the strapline ‘Some Like it Hot’, cover sees Bipasha posing in a deep cyan bikini. “This time because it’s summer, the film people wanted a very summery hot cover,” she explains, “It’s talking about heat, summer and like the way it goes. They have called it ‘some like it hot’.”

Bipasha has found herself with a month’s break due to rescheduling of dates. Is she spending the time slouched in front of the screen catching up on movies as most of us would? No, she is not! She’s busy every day learning how to do belly dancing, how to swim and how to drive – three life skills that have so far escaped her. Swimming and driving you can understand, but why belly dancing, you might ask? “I’m learning belly dancing for myself,” she explains, “I love dancing. I don’t have really fantastic knees. And I didn’t want to learn any dancing that would put pressure on my knees. Of course I’d love to do belly dancing on screen too. And I’ll incorporate it into my roles for sure.”

Last year was a good one for Bips with movies such as Race and Bachna Ae Haseeno – and 2009 looks like it’s shaping up well too. Amongst her offerings should be the controversial but fascinating Lamhaa about the Kashmiri situation and starring Sanjay Dutt and Anupam Kher; and Pankh with Mahesh Manjrekar and Lillette Dubey about the problems of gender identity. She can currently be seen in Aa Dekhan Zara with Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sophie Chaudhary.
