Debutant actor Sidharth Malhotra has admitted that he has been influenced by Karan Johar’s past work.

The actor, along with Varun Dhawan, worked with Johar on his 2010 UK blockbuster My Name Is Khan as assistant directors.

During his first international promotional trip to London recently, Sidharth Malhotra said: “We have all been big Karan Johar fans and have been influenced by his films. I am also a big Shah Rukh Khan fan because of his films.

“I think Karan incorporated qualities we have in in real life into our characters because he knew me and Varun as AD’s. When we rehearsed, Karan made me and Varun say lines from his previous films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Wake Up Sid and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” added Sidharth.

Speaking about his character in the film and the preparations he undertook, Varun Dhwan said: “The characters are very clearly edged out. My character is really into heavy metal music and I learnt some power chords on the guitar and had some drumming lessons too. Sidharth and I also trained extensively for football, swimming, cycling and running for two months.”

Student Of The Year is releasing nationwide in UK cinemas on 19th October 2012 by Eros International.
