2009 is looking to be a memorable year for music director AR Rahman. Not only has he won a Golden Globe for his musical score in the award winning Slumdog Millionaire, but Rahman has also received an invitation that he will find rather difficult to turn down. On the 22nd February, known to film buffs across the world as Oscar Night, the music maestro will be opening the ceremony with ‘Jai Ho’ with singer Sukhwinder Singh accompanying him on stage.

The music has been nominated in three categories and is considered a front runner in the Oscar race. ‘Jai Ho’ and ‘O Saaya’ have been nominated in the original song category with Rahman receiving nominations for the Best Original Score category.

It has also been reported that Rahman is altering ‘Jai Ho’ to allow it to be in perfect synchronization with the live orchestration that will be accompanying his song on the big night. Lyricist Gulzar is also expected to be present with his team when the famous ceremony unfolds, no doubt keeping his fingers crossed that this nomination turns out to be a winner.
