The Dil Chhata Hai and Bride & Prejudice actress, Sonali Kulkarni, appears to be entering a golden period in her career with a number of interesting roles under her belt and more to come. In 2006, she won an award at the Milan Film Festival for her role in the Italian movie Fuoco Su De Mi (My Heart is On Fire) and since then she has appeared in Taxi No.9211, Darna Zaroori Hai and the interesting Via Darjeeling amongst others.

In Sonali’s next film, Focus, she appears as a police officer alongside a blind man. “It is true that a blind man is my co-star,” she confirms, “He is superbly talented. It’s a privilege to work alongside someone who is an embodiment of courage and has a never-say-die spirit. I play a cop in the film and it is really exciting that I’m getting offers to play diverse roles from different genres. As an actor that’s the best thing because it shows that the industry trusts you.”

She’s also signed up for a role in Sunny Deol’s directorial venture, The Man. “I’m thrilled about Sunny’s film,” she says, “I’m playing the most sensitive character of my career. Moreover, Sunny was my childhood idol.”

Sonali also appears in the Marathi movie Gandh that was released last Sunday. As the title suggests, it’s a movie about smells and consists of three interlocking stories. “My film, Gandh, is an ensemble of three stories and all are interconnected with the notion of smell. While the first half of the script was written by my mother, I wrote the rest,” says director Sachin Kundalkar.

Finally, Sonali can be seen in Rock Shock with Lucky Ali. “It is a funny film and I enjoyed doing it,” says Lucky Ali, “Working with Sonali Kulkarni was a great experience. She is a lovely person, and a natural actor.”
