The Times of India Film Awards is a new award show being held this year. What is interesting is that this all star extravaganza is not being held in Mumbai but in Vancouver British Columnbia from 4th-6th April 2013. Talking about the inagural awards weekend that celebrating film and is taking Bollywood to the world, Mr Vineet Jain, Managing Director of The Times Group said. “TOIFA is the global choice awards to honour the very best in the Hindi film industry. It’s no more confined to the borders of the sub continent. It comes at a time when we are completing 100 years of Indian cinema. People don’t get to see their stars live. We have a deep connect with Bollywood and want to exploit that and take it to the world”.
The 3-day event will have some spectacular events celebrating the music and the movies of India On April 4 leading musicians from the Hindi film industry perform, the 5th, will have screenings all day of Hindi films and rounding out the second night will be the nominations gala and the technical awards. On April 6 the awards ceremony, hosted by Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma will take place at BC Place! Anushka said, “I’m excited and thrilled to be a part of TOIFA”. Ranbir added that he is excited and nervous but promises TOIFA to be huge!
Not only will the stars be there in the audience but Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan, Anushka Sharma and Priyanka Chopra will perform! Shah Rukh Khan said about the TOIFAs, “I’m extremely excited to be a part of this history making event. I’m going to sing and dance and make merry. I will bring in the celebration.”
The the winners of the 14 different categories are going to be based on the votes of the fans the world over! According to the TOIFA website: The Times of India Film Awards is envisioned to be popular choice awards where Bollywood fans across the world vote on the nomination categories to determine the winners of the popular choice categories.
The nominations for popular choice categories would be derived from popular films during the calendar year, the process would be driven by audit partners in conjunction with TOIFA Honorary Advisory Board Members (comprising of Bollywood industry veterans and other eminent personalities).
The Times of India Film Awards will be an all encompassing awards function, where technical awards are also awarded. The technical awards would be determined by the TOIFA Honorary Advisory Board Members in conjunction with audit partners.
