Slumdog Millionaire gets even more acclaim!

Slumdog Millionaire is sweeping the United States and is making waves not only at the box office but is garnering even more critical acclaim. The film has also been nominated and won more awards and we are not even into the heavy award season yet. It is taking the US box office by storm even in its limited release of just over 600 theaters. In fact this small film is making a huge impact and has broke into the top 10; last week the film was at number 8. Starring Dev Patel and directed by Danny Boyle the film is certainly making its mark!

Here is an update on the awards and nominations the film has received:

In one of the biggest coups the cast earned 2 nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Dev Patel) from the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Many Critics Associations have honored the film including:

The London Critics’ Circle Film Awards nominated the film in 6 categories including British Film, Director, British Director, British Actor, Young British Performer, and Screenwriter.

Detroit Film Critics Society: Won Best Picture and Best Director.

Florida Film Critics Circle: Won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

Chicago Film Critics Association: Won Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Most Promising Performer for Dev Patel.

San Diego Film Critics Society: Won 6 awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Score.

Phoenix Film Critics Society: Won 6 awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, Breakout on Camera (Dev Patel), and Best Performance by a Youth – Male (Ayush Mahesh Khedekar).

Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association: Won Best Picture and Best Director.

Houston Film Critics Society: Won Best Director and Best Screenplay.

St. Louis Film Critics Association: Won Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film awards.

Southeastern Film Critics Association: Won Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Chicago Film Critics Awards: Earned six nominations for the including Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Score, and Most Promising Performer (Dev Patel).

In other honors the film was listed at number 4 on Entertainment Weekly’s The Must List: Week of November 30, 2008 and was also named to Time Magazine’s list of Top Ten Films of 2008.

All eyes are on the Oscar nominations and of course the Golden Globe ceremony on January 11th. If you have not seen it run out and catch this film! It is the must see film of 2008!
