The uplifting underdog tale Slumdog Millioniare earned four Golden Globe nominations on December 11 including one for Best Picture – Drama. Other nods included Best Director for Danny Boyle, Best Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy, and Best Original Score for A. R. Rahman. The winner’s will be announced on January 11th.
Earlier this week, Slumdog Millioniare was honored with two awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association: Best Director for Boyle and Best Music for A. R. Rahman. It also won the runner-up prize for Best Cinematography for Anthony Dod Mantle. The New York Film Critics’ Circle also awarded the film’s cinematography with the Best Cinematography prize.
In addition, Slumdog Millioniare earned six Critics Choice Award nominations this week for Picture, Director (Boyle), Writer (Simon Beaufoy), Young Actor (Dev Patel), Composer (Rahman), and Song (‘Jai Ho’). These awards will be announced on January 8, 2009.
Currently playing in several major cities, Slumdog Millioniare will open in 87 additional theaters across North America this Friday, December 12, and bring its total theater count to 165. New markets where the film will debut in this weekend include New Jersey, Connecticut, Ohio, Houston, Austin, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Ann Arbor, Milwaukee, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, St. Louis, Kansas City, Louisville, New Orleans, Portland, Honolulu, and Sacramento.
