Director Abhishek Kapoor is basking in the success of Kai Po Che, which is based on Chetan Bhagat’s ‘3 Mistakes of My life’. He is now set to adapt his next film from the Charles Dickens classic Great Expectations. Ekta Kapoor will produce the film.

Great Expectations is Charles Dickens’ thirteenth novel and the second one to be narrated in first person, after David Copperfield. The story genre is Victorian literature. Apart from David Lean’s adaptation that came fifth in a 1999 BFI poll of the top 100 British films, Mike Newell’s 2012 film made on the novel has gained a lot of support as well.

A source said that Abhishek likes to write his own films and prefers starting them from scratch. “It took him two years to write the adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s book before transforming it into a movie. However, that will not be the case with this film. It was quite a task to arrive at a common ground for the two of them. Ekta and Abhishek had long discussions and took their own time before Ekta was convinced that this adaptation was a good idea,” stated the source.
