13may_qsqtMansoor Khan’s Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), the film which saw the debuts of Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla and also catapulted them both to stardom, has officially completed 25 years this week. Speaking about the occasion, Juhi had this to say to the Indian media, “It’s been 25 years, unbelievable and it was on the 29th April that the film was released. It is a foundation stone of my career so I am very emotionally attached to it. If it is made again then I and Aamir will do it again.”

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was one of few films under the romantic genre that released in the 1980s; during an era which was dominated by action-oriented films. “Not only were we nobodies at the time… I know while we were making it… because it was so different from the films that were happening at the time, the crew would snigger and say what are they making,” said Juhi. “Nobody really knew it… it was magic which just happened.”

On Monday, the cast and crew of the film attended a special screening of the film, as well as a dinner where they reflected on their memories of shooting it. Speaking about the anniversary, Aamir Khan had this to say about the film, as well as those who were involved in the making process and have passed on. “A very happy moment for all of us. We are all meeting after a long time. We are also missing those who were part of the film but are not there with us today. Nasir saab (producer Nasir Hussain), Majrooh saab (lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri), Suresh Bhatt, who was the choreographer – they all are not with us today.”

Aamir also said that his son and daughter saw the film for the first time during the screening on Monday. “My children have not seen the film. Junaid and Ira have also come and they are seeing it for the first time.”

Following the screening, Aamir’s nephew and star Imran Khan (who made an appearance in this film as a child actor) said that Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak should not be remade under any circumstances. “This film should not be remade. I believe this is a very special film and in my opinion I don’t think anyone can remake it.” “The film is still fresh and very enjoyable. To tell you the truth, I cried during the climax of the film. Yes, I was seeing it on the big screen for the first time and it was a lot of fun.”

Bollyspice congratulates the entire cast and crew of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak on this special milestone!
