She can sing, she can dance, and she can speak….um….Portuguese, so Patricia Bull is perfect for a Bollywood debut. In fact, the star of countless telenovelas may be appearing alongside two other Portuguese actors, Eric Santos and Carlos Paca, in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Kaminay. The movie is about blood diamonds out of Africa — and also drug dealing. Patricia plays the wife of drug-dealer Eric Santos. “The contract hasn’t been signed yet,” she says. “So I don’t want to say too much. But Eric Santos says it’s a really good project.”
But how will 28-year-old Patricia, a qualified journalist cope with the dancing required of all Bollywood actresses and working in a new language? “I like to dance,” she says. “I find I have a gift for it — though I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m talented. I also find is that I have an aptitude for languages. Right now, I’m learning Italian. When I was in Florence and I found I didn’t know the phrase for something in Italian, I got really angry and I had to learn it right away.”
US-educated Patricia previously appeared in the first-class Angolan movie, The Hero, about life in a war-torn state, that was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. She is also known in Portugal as a children’s TV presenter and as the host of TV’s ‘Dance With Me’ reality dance show.
