For her role in Welcome to Sajjanpur, Amrita Rao has applied make-up to develop the attractive southern complexion needed for her character. “Yes, in Welcome to Sajjanpur, I will be seen looking much darker than I really am, almost three shades darker than my original complexion,” she says.

In order to make her character even more authentic, the dedicated Amrita also practised pottery every day in her film costume so that it would develop the authentic look and feel she needed. “We wanted the clothes to have a used feel and also I wanted to look comfortable and at ease in them, considering we’re not really used to wearing a ghagra-choli everyday,” she explained, “So I would practise pottery in them everyday and they were washed several times before the shooting. The whole process of getting into this character has been very challenging and interesting. I’ve had to learn pottery, learn a new language and get comfortable in moving around in a ghagra.”

Amrita, who won the Best Female Debut Award for Ishq Vishk, was also noticeable in Main Hoon Na and Vivah. Earlier this year, she switched her focus more to Tollywood and appeared in My Name is Anthony Gonsalves. She will soon be seen in Victory which also stars Harman Baweja.
