One actress who seems to have taken to heart the words of the Bhagavad Gita, “an enlightened person – by perceiving God in all – looks at a learned person, an outcast, even a cow, an elephant, or a dog with an equal eye,” is Udita Goswami. She simply loves dogs and has three of her own, Babe Dorrien and Nemo. In addition to this, she arranges for the stray dogs around her compound in Mumbai to be fed, vaccinated and sterilized. “I have been feeding strays since I was very young, and continued the habit when I came to Mumbai four years ago,” she explains, “I do not feed them in my colony as the residents do not like it, but have someone who feeds them outside the compound.”

Like Rakhi Sawant, Jiah Khan and John Abraham, Udita is a committed supporter of PETA, the animal rights organization, and plans to open her own dog shelter for strays as soon as she can. “I am on the lookout for land outside Mumbai. If other animal activists want to help it’s fine, but I am all set to finance it on my own!” she says.

Assamese-born Udita played the stunning femme fatale in Zeher opposite Emraan Hashmi and Shamita Shetty. She was with Emraan again in Aksar along with Dino Morea. However, since then, her career has stalled slightly and she is keen to give it a kick start.

Meanwhile, there appears to be confusion around the relationship between Udita and her boyfriend director Mohit Suri. It may be too premature to talk of a permanent split – Mohit says they have been taking a break from each other but then suggests they are back together again – and speculation of an affair with Kangana Ranaut is denied by Mohit and unsubstantiated. Mohit suggests that Udita’s very laid-back attitude doesn’t gel well with his passionate involvement in work. “Udita can’t understand my passion for my work. When I’m shooting I’m a man possessed… just like Kangana’s character in Raaz,” he explains, “I can’t think of anything else, not even love. This is where our differences cropped up. She, being a woman, was able to give much more of herself than I am to our relationship.”

That’s the way, Mohit – a sure way to reclaim a woman’s heart is to start criticizing her professionalism, drop in a mention of the other woman, and then say you’re not as committed to the relationship as she is!
