Priyanka Chopra has criticised Mallika Sherawat’s recent comments during the closing of the Cannes Film Festival and has labelled them as ‘very callous.’ Mallika said in an interview that India is a “hypocritical society where women are really at the bottom of the society compared to men.” She also said that she finds it really “depressing” returning to India.

Speaking about Mallika’s comments, Priyanka Chopra stated the following to IANS. “I think we are a progressive nation. I disagree that we are a regressive nation. We are all sitting here and talking about educating the girl child, taking our country forward. I think it’s a misrepresentation of what our great nation is on the world platform.”

“It was something of which I felt extremely offended by. When it comes to Mallika’s statements, I think they were very callous and I don’t agree with her. It was upsetting for me as a woman. It was upsetting for me as a girl who comes from India. I think it was extreme misrepresentation of our nation. I don’t think it’s fair,” added Priyanka.

Many fans have slammed Mallika’s comments at Cannes where to some extent; she has tarnished India’s presence at the festival at a time when the country is celebrating 100 years of cinema.
