Rock On!!, a film directed by Abhishek Kapoor, stars Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny, Shahana Goswami, Koel Puri and Farhan Akhtar, who is making his acting and singing debut. Rock On!! is also the debut film for Prachi Desai and like Farhan, the film will also be her debut as a singer.
Desai told Bollywood Hungama, “Yaaa…it’s true that I have sung for a song in Rock On. In fact since yesterday, everyone has been asking me about this. It seems to have become big news already.”
The actual recording of the song came as a surprise to her, “One fine day when I was shooting for Kasamh Se, I got a call from Abhishek asking me to come to a studio. I thought it may just be for a script reading session or discussing something about my role in the film. When I reached the venue, it was a music recording studio and I wondered if I have come to the wrong place. I just went in and I was made to listen to a song. The next thing I knew was that, Abhishek wanted to me to sing a few lines in the song. Although I was told that my character may have to sing a few lines for the film, I didn’t know it would happen so soon. I am not a trained singer; however, I must say that things went pretty well and I could finish my part in a matter of few minutes.”
The soundtrack for Rock On!! totally rocks and has been given rave reviews. Prachi agrees and says it being her debut film she loves all of the songs, in fact she takes her friend’s cell phones and makes it the caller tune. If she has to pick a favorite track she says,”I really like the two female numbers ‘Phir Dekhi’ and ‘Yeh Tumhari Meri Baatein’. The teaser of the latter song is currently on air and you can really unwind when listening to this song, be it at home, at work or even while in your car. It’s a very feel good and soft song.” However you won’t hear the song with her voice on the soundtrack; it will only be seen and heard in the movie.
How does she rate Farhan Akhtar as a singer? “All the songs which Farhan has sung are simply unbelievable. I can’t believe he has actually sung 6 songs in the film. There is a really slow number sung by him called ‘Tum Ho Toh’ which is simply amazing.”
Adding, “While shooting, even before I heard the two female songs, this was the song which I heard first and I simply couldn’t get it off my head. Even the song ‘Pichle Saat Dinon Mein Maine Khoya’ is so relatable to the youth. But I guess the two songs which have really caught on are the title track and ‘Socha Hai’”.
Though a TV veteran, Prachi says she is “excited and nervous both” about the release of her debut film. Rock On!! opens on August 29th so be sure to check it out!
