Raima Sen, applauded for her serious roles in Bengali cinema, is heading more for Bollywood after her success in Parineeta, Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd and Eklavya. “I have been able to essay several roles of substance in serious cinema. But, in commercial films, I can play my age and have fun,” she says.

Talking of her role in Aparna Sen’s new movie The Japanese Wife, she says, “I play a widow having an eight-year-old boy.” She is also looking forward to appearing in Rituparno Ghosh’s new movie alongside her sister Riya. “We are not playing sisters. It is a film about wife swapping and an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s story. It will be a Bengali film but Rituparno is planning to dub it in Hindi as well. Though a period drama, it will have all the ingredients of commercial cinema,” she explains.

Raima is only really interested in taking lead roles at this stage of her career. “I have stopped playing second leads after Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. But of course, I don’t have a problem with acting in multi-starrers provided I am given a significant role,” she says.
