The successful 3rd South Asian Film Festival in Goa at the beginning of this month brought together filmmakers from India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and elsewhere. Its theme of dissolving boundaries produced a very positive response and continues to have effects even now that the festival is over.

At the festival, south actress Reeth Mazumdar met Pakistani director Siraj ul Haq and has been signed by him for Chandni. Reeth will soon be seen in Aaja Gunaah Kar Le, directed by Soorya. Soorya has worked as an assistant to Ram Gopal Verma and Sriram.

Reeth had always wanted to be an actress but was unsure whether she would make it. “Especially because I had no contacts in the film industry at all,” she says. “I thought it was tough battle if one wanted to establish oneself here. I guess I was destined to be here!”

Does Calcutta-born Reeth feel the Pakistan trip will boost her reputation? “In Pakistan, they love their heroines, especially if they are from Bollywood. There, they say ‘It’s a Katrina film’ and not an Akshay film. So the women get a lot of attention,” she explains.
