Singh is Kingg (SIK) releases on August 8th and the excitement surrounding the film starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif is getting even higher as the date for the premiere gets closer. People are raving about the theatrical trailer and the song promos are really notching up expectations for the film. Director Anees Bazmee is excited about how the film turned out and he recently talked everything SIK.

About the film he said, “SIK has all the right masala of a good commercial venture. It features terrific music, mind-blowing action sequences shot in virgin locales of Egypt, Punjab and Gold Coast in Australia apart from the uniqueness of most of the film’s actors sporting a turban, which is new for any Hindi film!”

Bazmee is also the screenwriter for the film and as he developed the character of Happy Singh he decided that Akshay would be perfect for the role. “Whenever I start writing any of my script, the first thing that I decide upon is the name of my hero’s character. The character of Singh in SIK is that of a very happy go lucky guy who is a dare devil, knows no fear and is not a manipulative person at all. He just loves to eat, dance and live life King size but for that he believes in working very hard. That is when I decided to name him Happy Singh. And I thought Akshay would be the perfect choice for this character.”

Talking a little bit about the styling for the character he said, “As I decided to cast Akshay for the lead role, the very next day I spoke to Akshay’s designer friend Shabina Khan for deciding upon Akshay’s look. I was confident that Akshay would look great in a turban. That time rather than a complete Sardar look with beard and turban, I told Shabina to design only a turban just to see how it looks on him. When we tried it on Akshay he looked amazing in Turban. I then took some pictures of Akshay just to get views of others as well and to my surprise everyone loved it. That’s how we zeroed in about his look.”

About Akshay’s performance as Happy Singh he revealed, “Akshay has done complete justice to the role and I am confident about him. This time he has done many stunts which were never attempted on Hindi screen before, there is sky diving, jumping from one lift to another. He enjoys the thrill and he was extremely excited performing them because he was back to action after a real long gap.”

He also complimented Katrina saying, “Katrina also has improved as an actress and is very hard working.”

Adding, “Every character in the film has a definite role including Sonu Sood, Ranvir Shorey and Javed Jaffrey.”

Bazmee, who has two superhits to his credit No Entry and Welcome, said that he likes to work with people he is comfortable with and ultimately it is all about the film and the actors not him, “I want my films to do well and I am not doing films to promote myself. If I am not excited about my script I will just not do the film. I want my actors to do well also. Ultimately, the audience should enjoy the film.”

Reports are that in theaters were there are advance bookings, shows are already selling out and there is a clamor for tickets at multiplexes that have not opened advanced bookings yet.
