13jun_FukreyIn a year of surprises where Aashiqui 2 has turned out to be a Blockbuster after a very good start and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has proven to be a smash Blockbuster after an exceptional opening, Fukrey too has managed to have its own share of the pie, though in smaller measures. After a rather ordinary beginning (which was expected), this Mrighdeep Singh Lamba film has managed to hold on amazingly well, and how. In fact it’s collections on a daily basis (2 crore +) right through the weekdays were barely 20% lower than the Friday collections (2.7 crore), which pretty much tells the tale.
This has resulted in the first week collections of around 18.5 crores which are good for a film of this scale, setting and starcast. This is now a win-win situation for all as an ensemble affair like this needed a shot in an arm to make its presence felt. The word of mouth has range from good to excellent which means it has earned a good presence for itself in the second week as well. It is one of the more liked films this year and hence would be giving some competition to Raanjhanaa, which is the new release of the week. In the process, other films like ‘Shortcut Romeo’ and ‘Enemmy’ are now arriving at lesser screen count.
Other release of the week, Ankur Arora Murder Case, is a washout. With around 1.5 crores coming in, the film is a massive disappointment at the box office. It is yet another example of a good film going down the drain due to adequate pitching, promotion and release. Now that’s unfortunate because with good performances and direction to boast of, the film at least had something different to offer in true terms. The film is off the screens in one week flat.
