We all know that the upcoming film Sarkar Raj will be the first film that Abhishek and Aishwarya will star in after being married. We also know that along with the new film comes the expectation of its success. According to the director, Ram Gopal Varma, he feels he should have no fear about the film’s success at the box office. “You tell me, how much can actually go wrong with Sarkar Raj? I am making a movie which takes its setting and characters from a film which has already been largely accepted by the audience over the years.”

Well, the director certainly isn’t lacking confidence in his film. But this is also the guy who directed Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag. We all know how that went, leaving a bitter taste in our mouths. His saving grace for Sarkar Raj is the fact that the characters have been well received by the audience. “See, Sarkar was liked by quite a few people. The box office itself is witness to that. The subject was lapped up well while the characters were appreciated. People wanted to know what more happened in the lives of Subhash Nagre and Shankar Nagre, the characters played by Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan respectively.”

Thankfully the sequel will answer any questions we have concerning the family and the shift of power. As he explains it, the change of power was the point of reference that he started from: “When power changes hands, a lot of things happen. And in the case of Sarkar Raj, a third dimension comes in the form of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s introduction. All of this does lead to quite a few volatile situations in the film. See my characters are all set so it saves me a lot of time (and some raw stock) to establish/introduce them to the audience. All I have to do now is tell them what happened once Shankar started calling the shots.”

Sounds interesting. Sarkar Raj is expected to release on June 6.
