13oct_Akshay-DussheraBollywood Superstar and Action Hero Akshay Kumar is all set to slay Raavan and reiterate the triumph of ‘Good over Evil’, this Dussehra!

Dussehra is marked on the 10th day of the Navratri celebrations in India where Lord Ram kills Raavan, also known as Raavan-wadh and is celebrated throughout India with varying rituals. On the tenth day (Dussehra or Vijay Dasami), larger than life effigies of Ravana, his son and brother – Meghnadh and Kumbhakarna are set to fire across the country to celebrate the glorious victory of Good over Evil.

The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and energy as it also marks the end of summer and the start of the winter season.

Akshay Kumar has been invited by the Lav-Kush Ram Leela which is one of the biggest ‘Ram Leela’ that takes place at Lal Qila in Delhi every year, to burn the effigy of Raavan. The Ram Leela is an enactment of the 10 day battle between Lord Ram and Raava, as described in the Hindu Religious Epic – Ramayana and the Lav-Kush Ram Leela has had a reputation of attendance from political big-wigs such as the Prime Minister and other affluent socialites.

Never before has a Bollywood Actor been invited for India’s biggest Ram Leela celebration in Delhi. On the respect and honor bestowed, Akshay commented, “It is an honor to be a part of such a momentous occasion. I thank the organisers for inviting me. Delhi holds a special place in my heart since I grew up there. It will be indeed special to do the Raavan Vadh there.”

It is said that synchronized lighting, imported fireworks, hydraulic podiums and heavy machinery will spice up the Ram Leela this year. The arrow fired by Rama, played by Akshay Kumar, will travel through a complex LED lighting system towards Raavan who, on being hit will bleed from the mouth and produce flames through his eyes.

Akshay is well excited about this opportunity and is looking forward to his first ever Raavan-wadh!

Dussehra will be celebrated on the 13th of October 2013 all over India
