This Friday audiences will see a new genre of film when they go to experience Bhool Bhulaiya. According to Akshay Kumar, one of the stars of Bhool Bhulaiya, this film is the “first psychological thriller ever in Bollywood”. Producer Bhushan Kumar says that although advertised as a comedy it does have a different side to it as well. “Of course Bhool Bhulaiya has a lot of funny moments. But those moments are combined with a supernatural element. This is a supernatural comedy, something never done before.” Adding, “I think the audience is looking for a twist in their comedy. Bhool Bhulaiya provides that twist.”
About his role, Akshay said, “I am extremely excited about this film project. From a filmic perspective, I feel we have done a wonderful job of creating something that will appeal to faithful and regular cinemagoers, as well as drawing audiences who are interested in seeing how the film opens the floodgates to a whole new dimension of thought and rationale about the human condition and psyche. It challenges pre-conceived notions about sensitive issues and brings into question society’s perceptions of faith, superstition, science and reasoning.”
Bhool Bhulaiya is a remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Manichithrathazhu (The Ornate Lock) and the story was also used for Chandramukhi, a Tamil film starring Rajnikanth. The script has a very intriguing story line and according to co-star Vidya Balan, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa is a maze and get ready to be lost in it.” Speaking of Vidya, Akshay says, “This film belongs to Vidya. She has done an excellent job.”
Directed by comedy master Priyadarshan, the film also stars Amisha Patel, Shiney Ahuja, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Manoj Joshi.
