Rakyesh Omprkash Mehra’s Delhi 6 has a new leading man again but actually it is the original choice, Abhishek Bachchan. The role in this film has gone through several actors’ hands including Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Siddharth and even newcomer Ranbir Kapoor before it ended up back with Abhishek.

A source was quoted in the Mumbai Mirror saying; “Mehra recently met Abhishek and spoke to him about the film. Mehra had earlier finalised Delhi 6 with Abhishek and also announced the film. However, one fine day he went to Hrithik with the same offer leaving Abhishek in the lurch. The Bachchans, who have always stood by Mehra, were very hurt. (Mehra was supposed to launch Abhishek in Samjauta Express and then made Aks with Amitabh Bachchan). However, to Mehra’s misfortune, Hrithik suggested certain changes in the climax, which he did not accept. After that Mehra went to Akshay who had no dates to spare. Mehra then approached even Ranbir Kapoor and Siddarth. Then there were reports that he had finalised Imran Khan (Aamir Khan’s nephew) as he wanted a newcomer. When he realised that the film required a major name he thought of Abhishek. So after having talks with the producers UTV Motion Pictures, he decided to go back to Abhishek who welcomed him with open arms. Abhishek had always loved the script but it was Mehra who ditched him for Hrithik. Now Abhishek has agreed to do the film and has even requested Karan Johar to postpone his film with Tarun Mansukhani for Delhi 6.”

Neither Mehra or Abhi have confirmed this report yet, but Abhi did say, “Right now, it’s too early to talk about it.”

If the reports are true, the film will begin shooting in the summer of 2008 but the exact dates have not been finalized. The film is the autobiographical story of Mehra and follows the director’s life from his early days living in Chandni Chowk.

We will wait and watch to see if the casting is indeed set and will be sure to give a full report when it is announced. Watch this space for that and for all other news about this highly anticipated film.
