The National Award winning filmmaker, T Rajeevnath, is ready to make a film based on one of Hollywood’s greatest classics Casablanca. He is writing the script for Sangam (a working title) himself and has signed A R Rahman to compose the film’s music and songs.

Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman originally starred in the 1942 Oscar winning film. The film won Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture and was nominated for 5 others including a Best Actor for Humphrey Bogart. This excellent film was set in unoccupied Africa during the early days of World War II: An American expatriate who owns and runs a casino in Casablanca meets a former love who is married to another, with unforeseen complications.

Rajeevnath hasn’t decided yet on who will play the moives’ heroine. But he wants to approach Shah Rukh Khan for the lead. According to Rajeevnath, SRK has the charm and flamboyance to carry the role with conviction.

The film’s shooting in Andaman Islands and Shimla will begin by the end of this year.

Rajeevnath believes Casablanca is one of the most outstanding movies of the last century and we look forward to seeing his version come to life!
