07may hrithik uma bhardwaj Hrithik and Uma in Vishal Bhardwaj’s next? There has been rampant speculation that Uma Thurman, star of many Hollywood productions including Kill Bill 1 and 2 has been approached to star in a Bollywood film. Her co-star is said to be none other than Hrithik Roshan.

The marketing director of UTV Production House, Siddharth Roy Kapoor, confirms that acclaimed film director, Vishal Bharadwaj will be directing his next film for their production house with Thurman. He said that about a year ago they approached her and now the Hollywood actresss has shown interest and asked for the script.

According to Kapoor, Uma will play the lead role in a biopic on an Indian film actor of the early twentieth century known as ‘Fearless Nadia’ who was known for wearing Zorro-like costumes and often performed Errol Flynn like stunts while wielding a whip.

However, other reports also suggest that the film with Hrithik as her co-star is set in 1943 Burma during the Second World War when Indian soldiers were fighting for the British against Japan.

Vishal Bhardwaj was surprised by the stories and said that the casting rumors were not true. The next film he is working on is an epic set in a foreign land and will be on a bigger scale and canvas than Omkara. Set to start shooting later in 2007, the script was written with Matthew Robbins.

According to Vishal, “It’s a musical unlike any musical in Bollywood. It takes the language of film music steps ahead of where it is. The casting will begin soon. For me the musical format is very precious. I’m a musician at heart. The musical which I’ve written with Robbins is something that will give full vent to my aspirations as a music director.”

If Thurman does play Fearless Nadia or a role in the film with Hrithik or in the epic with Bhardwaj, which all may be one in the same movie, it will be the first lead role for a mainstream Hollywood actress in a Bollywood film.

If this is true then what a treat it will be for the audience… Watch this space for more!
