On May 26th at the 9th Annual Bollywood Movie Awards held in New York, Mira Nair will receive the “Pride Of India” Award. “It is indeed an honour and a matter of great pride that Mira will receive this esteemed award, which she so richly deserves. In terms of promoting and promulgating India and Indian culture globally through cinema, she stands in a league of her own,” said Kamal Dandona the chairman of the Bollywood Group of Companies.

Mira Nair is a writer, director and producer of critically acclaimed films that have garnered nominations from The Academy Awards, The Golden Globe Awards, and 2 BAFTA Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. Hysterical Blindness, her film for HBO, was honoured with 3 Emmy awards and a Best Actress award for Uma Thurman at the Golden Globes. Her films have also won many awards at prestigious film festivals including the Venice Film Festival. Her debut film Salaam Bombay! won The Cannes Film Festival awards for Best First Feature, the Camera D’Or and most popular entry, the Prix du Publique as well as 25 other international awards.

Other films of Ms. Nair include; Mississippi Masala, The Laughing Club of India, and Monsoon Wedding. In 2003 she directed Vanity Fair and recently her newest release, The Namesake has been an international, commercial and critical success. Her next film, Shantaram will star Johnny Depp and Amitabh Bachchan.
