Young designers from Dubai, India and the UK got together to take Londoners on a shopping extravaganza at an event hosted by the Baby Doll fame Kanika Kapoor at the Grosvenor house.
A connoisseur of fashion, Kanika’s aim was to introduce some interesting labels from around the world, to UK shoppers, in aid of Pratham UK – the UK arm of India’s largest children’s education charity supporting the underprivileged.
Guests were treated to the ultimate in pop-up experiences with an eclectic mix of items like Cashmere capes from the young Indian designer duo Sneha & Shahnin, to tweed crop tops and skirts from the prominent Dubai brand Drama Queen. Barkha Shewakramani, the designer behind the label has dressed A listers in Bollywood such as Deepika Padukone.
Guests that wanted to go traditional also had the option to shop beautiful Chikankari saris and suits from designer Poonam Kapoor, who also happens to be Kanika’s mom. Poonam started her label to give jobs to the less fortunate Muslim women known for their expertise in this traditional form of hand embroidery. She continues to support them through her charity KalaKriti.
Accessories aficionados were also spoilt with choice with items on display from a wide range of designers including Amishi – a UK designer label that has been seen frequently on royalty in the UK amongst other stars. Also on offer was brand Opulence and Anusuya by Anu Mahtani.
Kanika said, “The event has been spectacular and the designers received a great response to their collections. I’m happy to have integrated young talent from three fashion capitals in the world all for a worthy cause.”
One of the youngest designers at the event Sneha from the label Sneha & Shahnin brought to London an exclusive offering through her stunning and quirky pure cashmere and silk capes said, “All the capes have sold out with more guests that have placed back-orders. As a new label, this is very exciting for me.”
