11apr shor sundeep Cricket Bribes Ka SHORCricket and Bollywood are inseparable in more ways than one.

A sub-story in Ekta Kapoor’s forthcoming comedy Shor In The City highlights Indian cricket’s darkest chapter – bribery. One of the three tracks in Shor In The City has been reportedly inspired by a 2003 incident that grabbed headlines when cricketer Abhijit Kale was accused of offering bribes to national selectors Kiran More and Pranab Roy.

Well-known Telugu star Sundeep Kishan who plays an aspiring cricketer in the film confirms, “That’s what I’ve been informed but I didn’t let it influence me much though I did research Mr Kale’s story.”

In 2003, Prof. Ratnakar Shetty, BCCI’s joint secretary at the time, had accused Kale of attempting to bribe national selectors.
Although Kale vehemently denied the charges, he was later suspended from playing international and domestic cricket.

Raj Nidimoru, co-director of the film, says, “This particular track in the film draws inspiration from various incidents that we read about in newspapers. This includes all the major cricket controversies since 1999: match-fixing, betting and bribery, to name a few. But everything has been fictionalised.”

Shor In The City releases on April 28.
